Washington, DC is fortunate to have within a 120-mile radius over 50 institutions of higher learning, among them public 4-year colleges and universities that range from liberal arts schools to large research institutions. They are operated under the supervision of state governments and are funded, in part, by tax dollars.
Below are six public colleges and universities located within the MAHCC's service area, which were included in the top 40 public educational institutions ranked in the U.S. News and World Report 2014 annual nationwide listing and which included 117 institutions. The six colleges and universities are located in four of our five states: Virginia (3), Maryland (1), Delaware (1), and Pennsylvania (1):
